“This funding ensures that Care4Carolina will continue to bring children and family organizations, patient advocates, providers and civic and business leaders together through 2024 — to ensure the promises of Medicaid Expansion are realized for North Carolina.”– Abby Emanuelson, E.D, Care4Carolina
(Raleigh, NC) — Care4Carolina is pleased to announce that it has received a grant to support the rollout of Medicaid expansion in North Carolina from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem.
The grant will allow the nonpartisan Care4Carolina statewide coalition to continue a decade-long mission to close the “coverage gap” in North Carolina by effectively expanding Medicaid. Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians stand to improve their lives and prospects by gaining health insurance coverage.
In addition to $385,000 from the Trust, other funders include: The Cone Health Foundation, The Dogwood Health Trust, The Duke Endowment, and countless foundations, nonprofit organizations and businesses.
Care4Carolina’s effectiveness was highlighted in May when the NC General Assembly overwhelmingly approved Medicaid expansion and Gov. Roy Cooper signed the legislature’s bill. Now, the coalition will work to ensure an effective and equitable rollout.
“With the likelihood that a state budget will be enacted later this year and that the NC Department of Health and Human Services has begun holding implementation meetings, the Trust funding ensures that Care4Carolina will continue to bring children and family organizations, patient advocates and civic and business leaders together through 2024 to ensure the promises of Medicaid Expansion are realized for North Carolina,” says Abby Emanuelson, executive director of Care4Carolina. “Lives are at stake, and we deeply appreciate the continuing support of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.”
Care4Carolina (https://care4carolina.com/) is a coalition that includes nearly 200 members from around North Carolina. Since 2016, Care4Carolina has educated key audiences – from grassroots to state government leadership – on the benefits and importance of closing the health insurance coverage gap and advocated for Medicaid expansion. Peg O’Connell serves as Chairperson.
